Wood flooring is any product manufactured from timber that is designed for use as flooring, either structural or aesthetic. Wood is a common choice as a flooring material and can come in various styles, colors, cuts, and species. Bamboo flooring is often considered a form of wood flooring, although it is made from a grass (bamboo) rather than a timber.

Solid

Maryland Carpet and Tile is proud to offer many selections of pre-finished solid hardwood flooring. The thickness can vary, but typically range from 3/4″ to 5/16″. Solid wood flooring can be installed above or on grade. Solid wood floors can be sanded and refinished many times, allowing for a change in color and personal style. Maryland Carpet and Tile offers many different species and finishes of solid wood flooring. Stop by our showroom and see the vast selections of solid hardwood flooring.

Engineered

One common misconception is that engineered floors are not real wood, however that is far from the truth. Engineered floors are still wood floors, however the manufacturer uses multiple layers of different wood veneers. The sub layers can be of the same species or it can be different. Engineered floors are stable and sturdy because the grain of each layer runs in different directions. This essentially means that the wood will expand and contract less than solid wood floorings.

This is an excellent choice that can be installed above or below grade. Being a natural hardwood, you will need to use special products when cleaning or wiping.

Bamboo

An alternative to solid or engineered floors, bamboo offers a sleek look that is eco-friendly and durable. There are three basic types of bamboo, which are engineered, solid, and strand-woven. Engineered bamboo, also known as horizontal cut, is similar to engineered hardwood floors, in which it consists of solid layers.

Solid bamboo is made up pieces of bamboo that have been glued together, and strand-woven bamboo is consisted of shredded and compressed bamboo. All three are durable and come in various finishes.

Cork

Popular in green design, cork flooring offers an eco-friendly option that is both durable and comfortable. This particular flooring is dense, comfortable, and safe. Cork is fire-resistant, only being susceptible to extremely high temperatures. Cork is naturally resistant to mold and mildew- making it a healthy flooring solution.
